Phnom Penh is teh awesome. It is kind of a weird vibe and often empty, but the food is varied and very good. If you go on a Friday or Saturday night, you'll be sure to at least have fellow diners, but I've never seen it crowded. That could even be a plus. Can't speak for the authenticity, but I like their curries and noodle dishes a lot, and it's really cheap.

One thing to note -- it is BYOB, but they are very helpful with the B and didn't charge us a corkage fee (you could even run across to Bar Cento to carry out any bottle of wine at 1/2 menu price -- even the house bottles at $15).

I agree, Phnom Penh is really good. It is also cash only (I think), so either phone first and ask or bring cash. There are several ATMs on W 25th, though, too.

thank you both for commenting! i'm there.
Hi Jackie - fear not Phnom Penh's emptiness. The one on West 25th is its relatively new 2nd location; I have a coworker who eats at the Lorain Ave location multiple times a week - she swears by it. I think it's OK. It is indeed cash only and BYOB - two things that I'm not sure are a great idea in a neighborhood populated mostly by yuppies. But it's cheap, the food comes out really fast after you've ordered, and if you look around Ohio City (the north side of Lorain, at least), it's one of only a few ethnic restaurants left (there's a preponderance of "fancy" foods creeping into the neighborhood.)

Be forewarned though that there's a sign on the window (on West 25th) that says "closed until June 28th" (I'm guessing they're on vacation.)
thanks for the input christine. and the warning about the 25th st. location being closed temporarily. i'm looking forward to trying it.
cash only? what do they think this is, new york?!
[this is good]
i agree, i ate there and really liked it.
